Creating an Obituary

  1. Once you've created a Case, you can navigate to the Obituary by clicking the Obituary tab on the Case Home Page

or by using the dropdown in the upper right.

  2. If you haven't started an Obituary before, key details like the person's name, birth date, death date, etc. will automatically copy over to this form.

  3. Fill in all the appropriate fields as you gather the information:

    1. Their name

    2. Birth date

    3. Death date

    4. The obituary itself

Everything is automatically saved

You'll notice there isn't a save button. We automatically save all of your changes so you don't need to worry.

Editing the Obituary Text

The obituary text editor supports rich text, like bold, underline, bullet points, and hyperlinks/web URLs. Everything is automatically saved, so you don't need to worry about losing any work.

Important Settings

On the right you'll see a few switches. Here's what they each control:

  • Obituary Status: Whether the page is published or not

  • Sympathy Store: Whether the Sympathy Store is enabled for this obituary. Use this depending on how the family feels about receiving gifts.

  • Gallery: Whether the page allows people to post condolences, memories, or upload photos.

  • Obituary Text: By default, this is enabled. You can disable this to publish the obituary page, but hide the actual death notice. This is useful if you want the page to exist but are still finalizing the death notice.

  • How should condolences be approved?: By default, condolences and images will automatically be published on the Obituary page. You can turn this off and manually approve each condolence. This is useful if a family is concerned about what people may comment.

Customizing the Web URL

You can customize the URL to the obituary by editing the URL field on the right. This will change the webpage of that obituary to yourfuneralhome.com/obituaries/what-shows-up-here.

Publishing

When you're ready to make this live on your website, simply click the switch under "Obituary Status" and it will go from Unpublished to Published

Changing Obituary Details

Editing an obituary works exactly the same as creating one. Simply make your adjustments, and your changes will instantly be live on your website.
